How will I know if my child becomes ill at school?

Occasionally children become unwell during the school day and can become distressed if their parents cannot be reached.

It is absolutely vital that we are kept up to date with any changes in information such as phone numbers and changes of address, in case of emergency; an alternative daytime number should also be given in case parents cannot be reached.

What about other absences from school?
Parents/carers are requested to avoid, as far as possible, arranging medical and similar appointments for their children during school hours. Where this is unavoidable, children must be collected from school by a known adult and the school should be notified in advance.

Holidays in term time will not be authorised.  Leave will only be granted under exceptional circumstances at the headteacher’s discretion.  Please request our Application for Absence form by emailing: admin@bournehall.herts.sch.uk.

ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY

Parents/carers, schools and the local authority share legal responsibilities in respect of school attendance.

Parents/carers of children of compulsory school age must ensure that they receive an efficient and suitable full-time education, either at school or otherwise.

(Pupils’ Attendance Records) Regulations 1991).

Regular attendance and punctuality are vital for your child’s education.

Arrival after registration is finished also counts as unauthorised absence unless due to unavoidable causes, notified by the parent or person in charge of the child to the school office or class teacher.

What happens if my child is ill?

If your child is ill you must inform the school by 9:30am on each day that they are absent from school.

Only absences deemed to be valid will be authorised. Absences are considered to be unauthorised if the school is not informed of the reason for the absence.
Tummy bugs spread rapidly - children should not return to school within 48 hours of cessation of vomiting or diarrhoea.
