LEARNING OUTDOORS
We believe that outdoor learning allows children to gain knowledge through experiences that are not available in the classroom. It is a an integral and essential part of the curriculum in our school.
Learning outdoors, children are provided with first hand experiences and opportunities to make decisions independently or as part of a group. Activities involve problem-solving - taking safe risks as children are encouraged to use equipment and materials and to be aware of the importance of personal care and safety at all times.
We have a wooded area, which includes a story ring, a fire-pit and willow dens. Children grow their own food on their allotments and in the poly-tunnel. Some of their produce is cooked, either by the children or the kitchen staff , and some is sold to fund new seeds for the following year.
The children are turning into avid birdwatchers. So far we have seen blackbirds, starlings, magpies, crows, wood pigeons, wagtails, great tits, blue tits and redwings - not all of them stay still for long enough to be photographed though!
